“Do everything according to the pattern which was shown to you on the mountain.” — Exodus 25:40

You Are the Salt of the Earth: What It Means to Be Salted, Physically and Spiritually

Most people hear "salt of the earth" and take it as a compliment about character. Jake's teaching is that the verse is describing something physical at the same time, and that the second half of it is the part nobody wants to sit with.

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. (Matthew 5:13, KJV)

His reading of that is direct. "Though most of us have lost our salt physically and spiritually, and we have become trampled upon by the foot of man because we've lost our salt."

Losing the savour means losing the minerals

In Jake's teaching, salt losing its flavor is not a metaphor standing on its own. It describes a mineral state. He returns to the same figure constantly: nine out of ten plus people are magnesium or salt deficient. He calls it a saltless generation.

He also ties it to copper. "94% of all people are copper and magnesium deficient. And that's making their temple as well deficient because we have to have salt in order to have organs that work fully and effectively."

So the question he puts to people is not whether they are good people. It is whether they still have any salt in them. "If the salt has lost its flavor, if you have become magnesium deficient, what's going to happen to you?"

The instruction that comes with it

The verse people quote about being salt sits alongside two he quotes constantly as the instruction.

And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt. (Leviticus 2:13, KJV)

...it is a covenant of salt for ever before the LORD unto thee and to thy seed with thee. (Numbers 18:19, KJV)

Jake's shorthand for the first is "salt every offering," and he applies it beyond food. "Every meal, oblation, that includes every drink, too." Water, coffee, juice, meat. Every offering.

The second he treats as settled and not up for renegotiation. A covenant of salt that will last forever.

What he says the flavor actually does

Jake describes salt as doing electrical work in the body. "Every time we add salt and key lime, or at least just salt to our water, we create a positive electrical charge, which makes us more electrical, which turns on our central nervous system."

He calls magnesium the thing that magnetizes the body, and he points at GABA, which he describes as "the peace hormone neurotransmitter that controls everything else in the body." Salt stimulates it; low salt means low GABA.

He also connects it to muscle, and he is blunt about what he thinks that means for people training hard. "Minerals equal muscle. So the muscle that they have, it's not real muscle, or our body just requires to have a certain amount of minerals in order to carry a certain amount of muscle. And so all these people, they're focusing on protein but they're not getting the 108 different minerals." He describes people using a sea salt solution before and after the gym seeing testosterone and human growth hormone increase about 500%.

Salt changes the room

The part of this teaching that is hardest to summarize is the spiritual half, and Jake does not treat it as separate.

"When the salt enters the container, does not everything else near the container rotate and absorb around and near the soul? And so when you're around people, you absorb and they will rotate around and near you also."

He extends it to speech. "That's why your speech is supposed to also be salted." And he frames the deficiency the world is walking around in as the reason the room has gone flat. "The world might be deficient from the sad standard American diet that's deactivating their genes. But you still have maybe your magnesium, your copper."

His conclusion on it: "If you're the salt of the earth and you have flavor, of course, wherever you're going to go, it's going to have flavor too."

Where to start

Jake's starting point is never complicated. Get real salt back in, every day, in everything.

"I don't want you to focus in on the magnesium bicarbonate or the magnesium glycinate. I want you just to get some plain salt, just some real hand harvested quality clean salt, five to ten grams. Don't over complicate it."

The salt the ministry stocks for that is the Hand Harvested Organic Qualified Mineral Salt, which comes with a third-party trace mineral test. Jake's own position on sourcing is that getting some salt beats getting none: "Get it anywhere you can find it, but the point is it's in the link."

How much, and why five to ten grams, is covered next.
